Chapter One

The Girl in the Wedding Dress

About an hour before he got shot, E. E. Reiger met a pretty girl in a wedding dress.

"You got a light?"

"Pardon?"

He turned.

And there she was.

"Seeing as how they don't let you light up onboard," she whispered, with a pretty shrug.

"Well, I don't think they really allow it here inside the airport either."

She leaned next to him, against the airport lobby wall, the front of her gown ballooning wildly.

She shrugged.

He shrugged back.

And that's how they met.

Twenty minutes later, on the plane.

Standing in the aisle was the pretty girl in the wedding dress.

She made a pistol-shooting gesture with her fingers (pow!) then took a seat across the aisle and one row back behind him -- followed closely by a tall skinny man with the dark hair who glowered at Reiger as he passed. Obviously, her husband-to-be; obviously not happy to see his wife-to-be talking to some stranger-to-be on a plane.

"You know them?" a busty young blonde in the seat of him asked, startling him for a variety of reasons.
